62 – Healing Trauma Through the Psychology of the Voice with Tracy Goodwin

Tracy Goodwin has been coaching the voices of celebrities, entrepreneurs and business leaders around the globe for over 28 years. Tracy joins us to talk about how our voices can be used to reveal and heal trauma. One phrase used to silence us at some point in our lives can affect the way we use our voices in the long-term. Our subconscious wants to protect us and our hearts, but we need to teach it to let go and let ourselves speak. Tracy helps people overcome this and find their true voices.

Show Notes

5:10 – There is a story, I call it the “voice story” and it comes from our experiences…and goes into your subconscious mind.

5:30  Your subconscious mind’s goal is of course to keep you alive, but to protect your heart. That’s where your message is. And your voice is the orchestra of that heart. So what does that subconscious mind do? It starts shutting your voice down.

8:35 – When we think of trauma, we think of BIG things.  But when it comes to the voice, being silenced by one phrase…is trauma to your ability to use your voice, to be heard.

9:08 – The voice is the utmost place of judgement. The minute I open my mouth, I’m subjecting myself to judgement because I’m sharing that message in my heart.

9:55 – We’ve all been silenced in some way or another. And that is trauma.

10:09 – Our voice is the pathway to our inner self. And when it’s shut down, we lose who we really are. (Nicole)

10:29 – We show up in our body language, but our voice reveals our truth. (Nicole)

12:04 – People are not getting to the next level of success because they aren’t revealing who they are.

15:32 – We do all kinds of things with our voice to fit in.  But also to comfort ourselves.

17:10 – We use our voice in many, many ways to protect ourselves: to not be vulnerable – to connect – to disconnect.

18:17 – A mask is all about ‘let me be what you want me to be.’

22:25 – Speaking your truth beautifully is what it’s all about.

22:30 – There is intense suffering in not using your voice.

22:53 – Every voice, whether we like what they are saying or not, needs to be heard.
