Elaine Wellman, Event & Retreat Strategist & Coach, joins us as we continue our journey through the crazy holiday season. Elaine reminds us that we don’t have to keep doing things the way they’ve always been done!
Elaine is an event-planning professional in New York City who knows a thing or two about managing life during the holidays. Today she shares how she was able to navigate a sticky family Christmas shopping tradition and changed things up to take care of herself.
[2:06] Just because something’s always happened every year in the past doesn’t mean it has to happen exactly the same again for eternity… or even just this year.
[4:01] I could have kept just going along with it and being miserable, because I was miserable, OR deciding this is a boundary – this is something I don’t need to keep repeating – this is something I have control over, that I can change – and I can do it in a loving way.
[4:22] I hope people can take a look at what might not be serving them – that they might be able to change.
[4:40] There’s always a way to respect yourself and your needs.
[5:36] Sometimes those traditions get so ingrained – and if you really give that a push, you might find out that other people aren’t that into it either.
[6:00] It is my holiday, too. So I want to feel like I had one.
